1/14/2022 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

As I sat down to write my HaShavua message, I found myself reflecting on this week’s parsha. Parsha Beshlach tells the story of the miracle experienced by the children of Israel while escaping Egypt. Wandering through the desert and suffering from hunger and thirst, the Israelites found themselves trapped between Pharaoh's army and the sea. Just when they felt all hope was lost, Moses lifted his staff, the seas parted, and the Israelites were able to escape. This powerful parsha continues to remind us that obstacles can provide opportunities for miracles.

As a community, we have faced many obstacles throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we have also witnessed our community coming together to ensure that our children continue to remain focused and engaged in both their education and with their peers. Our faculty has risen above the challenges of virtual learning to provide our students with exceptional educational experiences. Our DKJA families have found new ways to celebrate the joyous Jewish holidays and commemorate the important Hebrew dates. As the Head of School, I am proud of all we have accomplished this year and the simchas we will celebrate together in the near future. Wishing everyone continued good health as we look forward to the time when the obstacles created by COVID-19 are a thing of the past.

Tu B’Shvat Celebrations
In preparation for Tu B’Shvat, students in all divisions took part in celebrations this week. Festivities included holiday-themed bingo, decorating pots and planting seeds, and creating edible fruit art. Our Kindergarten students even enjoyed a special Tu B’Shvat parade through our hallways. In addition, our students attended a virtual musical sedar hosted by the Jewish National Fund.

As a reminder, the school and office will be closed on Monday, January 17, for Martin Luther King Day. Wishing you a relaxing weekend.

Shabbat Shalom,
Helena Levine
