10/30/2020 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

This week, we welcomed more students in all grade levels back to campus to resume in-person learning. The transition from remote learning is an important part of our COVID-19 re-entry plan, and I am grateful to everyone for continuing to follow the established protocols for returning to campus. Looking through my office window earlier in the week, I was overjoyed to see students walking together while still maintaining social distancing and to hear the sound of laughter coming from the playground and lunch areas. The return to school this year has been different in ways we could never have previously imagined, yet our DKJA community has handled this challenge with a strong commitment toward ensuring that the education and health of our students remain top priorities. Thank you to everyone who helped make this week’s transition seamless. We will be offering our remote students another opportunity to resume in-person learning when we return from winter break on January 4, 2021. Please be on the lookout after Thanksgiving for a survey where you can indicate the learning choice for your child(ren) for the third quarter of the school year.

It’s hard to believe that we are already discussing Thanksgiving and winter breaks! With these school breaks in mind, I want to remind everyone that during these times we must continue focusing on important COVID-19 protocols, including maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, and avoiding large gatherings. We all recognize that this year the holidays may look different from years past. Medical experts recommend we avoid nonessential travel and keep the size of our gatherings small. We have seen recent spikes in the COVID-19 infection rates within our state and throughout the country. Fortunately, our campus has remained safe, and we are thankful for the DKJA families who have followed our guidelines and protocols so that we can continue to keep our campus open for learning.

We have just concluded parent-teacher conferences, and I hope you all had a chance to meet virtually with your child’s teacher(s). While these brief conferences are meant to give you an overview of your child’s academic performance to date, the DKJA Way ensures that teachers regularly communicate with parents through emails, texts, and phone calls. Please be sure to read the principal’s weekly emails and log in to Eagles Net for updated information on assignments, grades, and upcoming events. Also feel free to reach out to any teacher if you would like to discuss your child’s progress in greater detail. Students learn best when they know there is a partnership between the school and home. During these unprecedented times, we are committed to maintaining that partnership more than ever before!

Wishing all of our families a restful weekend.

Shabbat Shalom,
