Dear DKJA Community,
We all breathed a collective sigh of relief this week upon hearing the news that the hostages in the Colleyville synagogue were free and unharmed. This incident reminds us of our school’s responsibility to continue to teach our children the importance of Israel advocacy, how to combat antisemitism, and our commitment to “never forget.”
As a Jewish day school, we are dedicated to ensuring that our children are able to learn in a safe and nurturing environment. DKJA is grateful to be part of a larger community that makes security a priority and works to minimize risks for our students and staff. Within our school family, we continue to encourage a spirit of collaboration and respect for differences of opinion, while working together to maintain a healthy and safe space for students to learn and grow.
This past week, our students participated in several activities and conversations about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As they commemorated his birthday, students learned about the role Dr. King played in the growth of the civil rights movement and his unwavering commitment to treating all people with dignity and respect. One of my favorite sayings attributed to Dr. King is “The true measure of a man is not how he behaves in moments of comfort and convenience but how he stands at times of controversy and challenges.” This message is regularly communicated with our students through our Leader in Me program and as part of our daily Torah studies.
Yesterday, our students celebrated Yom Ivrit (Hebrew Day) and continued celebrating Tu B’Shvat by playing traditional Israeli games and enjoying a program hosted by the Jewish National Fund (JNF). We are grateful that this special partnership with JNF aligns with our mission to provide our students with an experiential learning environment. As a premier Jewish day school, we are experiencing tremendous growth both spiritually and in student enrollment for the upcoming school year. I am hopeful that we will all have the opportunity to celebrate these wonderful achievements together soon.
Wishing you and your families a safe and restful Shabbat.
