Congressional Art Competition

Anita Schwartz
Did you know that… DKJA students have received the winning title of the Congressional Art Competition 4 times already?!

On June 5, 2020, Congresswoman Lois Frankel hosted a virtual Zoom reception and art competition for Florida’s 21st Congressional District. The 2020 Annual Congressional Art Competition provides members of Congress the unique opportunity to showcase the talents of their creative high school constituents.

We are so happy to announce that the winner of the 21st District this year is from our Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School! Join us as we wish 11th grade student Zoey Eisenband a huge mazal tov on this amazing achievement. Zoey’s painting, entitled “Winnie,” will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. It is part of a series of ten paintings that she completed for her AP Art portfolio this year. The work will also be exhibited on the congresswoman’s website: https://frankel.house.gov/constituent-services/arts-competition.htm

Zoey’s artist statement about the theme she chose for her AP Art portfolio so adequately describes the person she is: “My work is about celebrating the loved ones in my life in a way that reflects my personality and my perception of life; bright, colorful, and full of spirit. Life is not always easy. We all face challenges that are sometimes out of our control. How we handle these challenges is a choice. I choose to look on the sunny side of life and not dwell on negativity. I encourage others to do the same. Especially at this time, during a pandemic, a good practice is to remind ourselves daily about what we are grateful for.”

DKJA art teacher Anita Schwartz is so proud of Zoey and all her AP Art students. Each of them has put in an incredible amount of work, effort, and time. Mazal tov, Zoey, on this well-deserved honor. We can’t wait to see how your portfolio will look by the end of next year. Your art career has just begun, and we are excited to be on this journey with you!
