2/4/2022 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

During the month of February, students in all grade levels will be commemorating Black History Month through a variety of lessons, activities, and discussions. As part of DKJA’s commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), it is essential that our children continuously learn about the history of our country, in an effort to remove racial barriers and work towards unifying our diverse community. In addition, the month of February has also been designated as Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month, with the goal of creating an atmosphere of inclusion for all and welcoming the disabled into our community. As we continue to emphasize a holistic educational experience rooted in Jewish values, the inclusion of activities and discussions related to these topics helps our children fulfill the mitzvah of lifelong learning.

Discovering Passions
This week, our RHS students had the opportunity to participate in Minimester, an annual program, which promotes Torah Lishma, or learning for its own sake. During Minimester, students take a break from their normal routine of courses and choose elective seminars taught by RHS faculty. This innovative program encourages students to strengthen their critical thinking skills, explore their interests, and even discover new passions.

Developing Leaders
This week, the Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School introduced a new signature program for a select group of 10th and 11th grade students. The RHS Leadership Academy provides a tremendous opportunity for these students to further develop and hone their leadership skills in association with the Dale Carnegie program. The Leadership Academy joins a wide variety of other signature programs that position our students for success in high school, college, and beyond.

Celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends
Faculty and students across all divisions were busy this week preparing to welcome our grandparents and special friends to our virtual Grandparents and Special Friends week-long celebration. Our grandparents are the backbone of our community, and the relationships they share with their grandchildren — our students — are incredibly special. Our virtual Grandparents and Special Friends week will kick-off on Monday, February 7, at 1:00 p.m., with a video emailed to parents and grandparents. The flyer below includes all of the programming information for next week, including our Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday, February 11. We are so looking forward to honoring our students’ loved ones and inviting them into our classrooms for virtual learning!

On a final note, I am excited to report that the DKJA varsity girls basketball team won its first district championship in school history by a score of 58-50. Mazel Tov to our Eagles!

Wishing everyone a relaxing weekend.

Shabbat Shalom,
Helena Levine
