3/12/2021 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

This week as I walked down the halls of our incredible school, I couldn’t help but stop and reflect on all we have accomplished as a community this year. Throughout the pandemic, we have worked together to ensure our students continue to receive an education of extraordinary power and purpose. I am asking that our community comes together once again to raise money for the DKJA 2020-2021 Annual Fund. This Monday, we are kicking off a 48-hour match campaign made possible by Mark Peikin, who is the parent of one of our DKJA students, Nathaniel Peikin. Mark and Nathaniel are inspired by the Jewish learning and the shared educational experiences DKJA offers to our students and families.

Through a match from the Nathaniel Jeremy Peikin Foundation, all donations made by our community on Monday, March 15 and Tuesday, March 16 will be matched up to $50,000. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and continued support of Mark Peikin, whose match will help ensure that our current and future students continue to receive a one-of-a-kind education rooted in Jewish values and exceptional academics. Donations will go directly to school-related projects and will provide additional tuition support for our DKJA families affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The money raised during our match campaign will also go towards keeping our community healthy, striving, and secure. Please be on the lookout Monday morning for the link to donate, and thank you in advance for your commitment to our school.

This week, we held our spring parent-teacher conferences, where our families had the opportunity to meet with our teachers to ask questions and discuss their child(ren)’s progress.  Parents play an integral role in the education of our students and our conferences are a way to continue the valuable connection between home and school.

Our faculty, staff, and administrators have been working tirelessly throughout the school year to create an exceptional learning environment for our students. Today, they were treated to a special professional development day focused on personal learning and self-care. Our team was encouraged to spend the day doing activities that bring them joy both personally and professionally, such as attending a webinar or going for a walk. I took advantage of the professional development day by starting my day with a yoga session followed by a walk. After that, I sat outside and enjoyed the good weather with a cup of coffee and the book, Humanocracy. I followed my reading with a lunch date with my mother and my daughter, who has just returned from college. I spent the remainder of the day enjoying a fun game of pickleball, and, of course, catching up on my emails. It is my hope that our faculty, staff, and administration enjoyed this well-deserved day of relaxation, professional growth, and rejuvenation.

Wishing you a relaxing and fulfilling weekend.

Shabbat Shalom,
Helena Levine
