2/19/2021 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

I hope you all had a wonderful extended holiday weekend and were able to share in memorable moments with your loved ones. It has been a busy week at DKJA, as we hosted our grandparents and special friends for another week of Grandparents and Special Friends Month. Throughout the month, our students, faculty, and staff have been holding engaging and informative classes for our guests to enjoy from the comfort of their homes. I am thrilled that our important annual event has blossomed into a month-long celebration with diverse virtual programming. Monday begins our final week of Grandparents and Special Friends Month, and I encourage all who fit within that category to join us for a variety of exciting classes. To close out the month, we will be holding a K-12 virtual Shabbat celebration on Friday, February 26. The entire DKJA community, including parents, grandparents, and special friends, is invited to join us as we look back on the wonderful month and look forward to a bright future. Additional information on the K-12 Shabbat and the weekly schedule of events for the last week of Grandparents and Special Friends Month will be emailed on Monday.

The spring semester is passing quickly, and Passover break will be here before we know it. DKJA is staying busy with many exciting events happening in the weeks to come, and I look forward to sharing them with the DKJA community.

Storytime with the Head of School
February 23 at 6:00 p.m. All Lower School students and their families are invited to join me in our next virtual Storytime with special guest, Principal Jill Shoshany. I am excited to read one of my favorite stories in honor of Purim. The Zoom link will be made available next week.

Purim
February 26 at 12:30 p.m. Students will be released early in celebration of Purim. Division principals will be relaying information about the exciting class activities happening in honor of the holiday.

Leader in Me Celebration
March 3 at 10:00 a.m. The entire DKJA community is invited to join us for the 10th Anniversary of Leader in Me at DKJA. Leader in Me is a leadership program for all ages, where students learn how to become emerging leaders, be more goal oriented, and have a successful future. DKJA is the only Jewish Day School in the world to be recognized as a Lighthouse School through Leader in Me by the FranklinCovey organization. The Zoom link will be made available closer to the celebration date.

Parent Teacher Conferences
March 10-12 Students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on March 10 for Parent Teacher Conferences. School will be closed on March 11 for Parent Teacher Conferences and will also be closed on March 12 in order to allow our faculty, staff, and administration to take part in a professional development day.

Passover Break
March 26-April 4 DKJA school and office will be closed for Passover break from March 26 through April 4.

Spotlight on DKJA
April 18-22 Please mark your calendars for Spotlight on DKJA, a special week-long celebration in honor of DKJA. The week will begin with a fun family road rally scavenger hunt, will include an online auction and spirit week, and will end with our Pinnacle Event, a virtual gathering to celebrate our exceptional school. Please see the flyer below for more information. Additional details will be forthcoming.

It has been an exceptional start to the second semester, and I’ve enjoyed watching all of our students, in person and remote, continue to flourish and develop into outstanding individuals. I look forward to ending the year strong.

Shabbat Shalom,
Helena Levine
