11/20/2020 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

This past week we ushered in the month of Kislev. Interestingly enough, Kislev is a month filled with opposite events: we welcome the lighted candles of the Hanukkah menorah while at the same time we experience extended days of darkness before the winter solstice. I thought about this paradox as I walked through classrooms and peered in on Zoom classes this week. I realized that each and every DKJA student represents a bright light in what could otherwise be a dark time.
Our students are engaged and learning, they are excited and inquisitive, and they are passionate and thoughtful. Each DKJA student is a shining example of how we, as a community, will navigate these unusual times together and continue to grow and achieve as a school.

On Tuesday, we held our first Leadership Council meeting attended by our generous donors. I had the opportunity to share an update on the state of the school as well as some insight into the power of community. I look forward to more Leadership Council meetings in the future. If you are interested in becoming a member of this council, please contact our Director of Development, Sherryl Steinberg, at steinbergs@dkja.net.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to so many individuals who are working to ensure that DKJA continues to shine throughout our community. Thank you to all who participated in last Saturday night’s Virtual Poker Night. This successful and fun evening would not have been possible without the support of our donors and those who attended. A very special thank you as well to our faculty, administration, and staff for their ongoing professionalism and assistance in helping to make our campus a safe and healthy environment for learning.

Shabbat Shalom,
