11/06/2020 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

One of the core values of DKJA is to instill in our children a lifelong appreciation of Judaism and a commitment to Israel. This month, our focus is on celebrating the history of Israel through a variety of activities at all grade levels. While there are no Jewish holidays during this month, our Hebrew and Judaic Studies teachers are busy sharing with our students the many consequential events that helped to shape the State of Israel and its people during this month in history. Our Middle and High School students are learning about the importance of the Balfour Declaration, the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, a United Nations resolution speaking out about Zionism, Operation Moses, and the Partition Plan. Lower School students are using songs and stories to explore the meaning of symbols, such as the dove and the Magen David, that express our connection to the land of Israel and its culture. I am proud of how beautifully our teachers are incorporating these lessons into their daily schedules as we continue to provide a cross-curricular and mission-driven education to our students.

Our DKJA community extends well beyond the boundaries of our campus. Especially during these unprecedented times, we continue to seek ways to collaborate with educators from different schools and to share our knowledge and experience. This week, I attended the virtual Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) convention along with hundreds of educational leaders from throughout the state of Florida. This annual convention brings opportunities to connect with leaders from other schools and to share ways of reimagining education to increase student engagement at all levels. I am also proud to announce that along with my colleague Ilanit Fischler, I will be presenting a one-hour workshop at the upcoming National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Online Annual Conference. Both of these opportunities are examples of how far reaching DKJA’s impact is.

Whether we are teaching the history of Israel or collaborating with teachers across the country, the outstanding education provided at DKJA remains global and fluid. Our faculty continues to incorporate experiential opportunities for our students to learn and explore the world around them. Thank you for entrusting your children to the many facets of learning at DKJA.

Shabbat Shalom,
