9/18/2020 Head of School Message

Dear DKJA Community,

This week was wonderful as we welcomed the Middle and High School students to the second week of our
phased-in return to campus. I am extremely grateful to our tremendous faculty, staff, parents, and students for their commitment and adherence to the new policies and procedures for carpool, mask wearing, and social distancing. Please enjoy this video showcasing our students over the past two weeks learning at home and in school. DKJA spirit is EVERYWHERE, regardless of where our students are learning. As the video’s song states, “We’re All in This Together!”

Tonight marks the first evening of Rosh Hashanah and the beginning of the High Holidays. The feeling of a new year ahead is evident both throughout the building and on the video screens as students of all ages excitedly learn about traditional foods, the blowing of the shofar, and the symbolic casting away of sins in the ceremony called Tashlich. Reflecting on this past year, we acknowledge the generosity of gifts we have been fortunate to receive and look for ways to show our appreciation to those who have provided so
much to our community. This week I joined forces with other members of our administration to show gratitude to several individuals who have been so gracious to our school during these unprecedented times. We donned masks and delivered bottles of kosher wine, pomegranates, and honey sticks to our most generous and committed donors to wish them L’Shanah Tovah and to thank them for their leadership, support, and dedication to the DKJA community.

The goal of Israel education at DKJA is to impart knowledge and provide meaningful experiences about Israel, with the hope that Israel becomes a dynamic factor in the hearts, minds, and souls of our students. On Tuesday, we witnessed a historic event as a peace agreement was signed in Washington, DC, between the State of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. In all Hebrew, Judaic, and Israel Education classes as well as during morning Tefilah, students discussed the implications of how this agreement may ultimately create opportunities for greater peace in the Middle East.

Thank you to all the teachers who helped make these conversations engaging and relevant for all DKJA students. This week we began our partnership with SchoolPass. This user-friendly digital platform will ultimately enable us to streamline the process of carpool, early dismissals, late arrivals, and confidential health screenings. An email was sent to all families with information on signing up for SchoolPass.
Please remember that parents with children attending school in person will need to submit the confidential health screening assessment found on SchoolPass prior to leaving for school in the morning. Please continue to check your emails for further information on SchoolPass as we phase in additional modules for attendance and dismissal procedures. Questions regarding this new program can be emailed to  registrar@dkja.net or your child’s principal.

As we begin 5781, I want to express my personal gratitude and appreciation to the entire DKJA community for the extraordinary commitment you have shown this year to our school. I am looking forward to an amazing year ahead filled with much happiness, good health, and memorable experiences.

Wishing you all a sweet, healthy, and happy New Year!
Shabbat Shalom and Shanah Tovah U’metuka,
