DKJA’s Drama Director Recognized for Her Inspirational Efforts
Boca Raton’s Donna Klein Jewish Academy has a proud tradition of putting on quality theatrical productions, which after much anticipation sell-out year after year. Now the person behind the stage and beyond the lights is getting some much-deserved recognition. Zoraida Adams, the school’s Drama Department Director was given the ‘Inspiring Theater Educator Award’ earlier this spring at the Kravis Center’s Dream Awards.
Adams has worked at the school for the past 16-years and has guided her students in putting on plays and musicals such as ‘Grease’, ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. She was joined on stage in receiving her award by two of her students, Daniela Supovitz and Coby Russo, who were representing the K-12 community Jewish day school as ambassadors at the event.
“Zoraida means everything to me as she has transformed the way I look at the arts and has been a mentor to me throughout my journey as a young filmmaker,” said 2018 graduate Robbie Shinder. “She is not only a mentor to me, but to countless other students who have walked through her door and have gone on to do big things in the arts.”
The DreamAwards celebrates Excellence in High School Musical Theater and Adam’s specific award was voted upon by her peers at participating area schools, with the goal of highlighting an individual who had the most positive impact on the lives of their students.
This was a busy year for both Adams and her young thespians as they put on two productions, one (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as a result of a theater class taught in the fall, and another (‘Anything Goes’) which served as the school’s annual performance in the spring.
