DKJA Celebrates its 25th Annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day

The Jewish phrase L’dor V’dor (from generation to generation) was on full display as Donna Klein Jewish Academy held its 25th annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Feb. 8.

 

Students in grades K-12 held various celebrations from a formal program in the school’s Zinman Hall to individual classroom visits, where plenty of memories were made and pictures were taken. 

 

The annual event featured a number of performances by individual classes on stage, while spotlighting the special relationship between the two generations. Some of the students who were on hand for the school’s earliest Grandparents & Special Friends Day celebrations were back on campus in another capacity; faculty members. 

 

“This day is very important to me because it brings family values, Judaism, and my ancestral history all together,”said AP Psychology teacher Terri Samuels, who graduated from DKJA in 2007. “25 years ago, my grandparents sat in the audience at the very first Grandparents Day, and proudly attended each year after until their last grandchild graduated.”

Samuels grandparents were back in the audience for the celebration’s silver anniversary. This narrative also rang true for the many ‘DKJA lifers’ participating in the ceremonies that day, including 26 in the 2019 senior class. Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School also held a special program for students in grades 9-12, and their grandparents during the day.
